Saturday in the Park … with Art Juried Show Winners

The Capitol Arts Galleries and ArtWorks, a Visual Arts Coalition partnered to present the 2nd annual art fair, “Saturday in the Park … with Art” from 1 – 7 p.m., Saturday May 31 in Fountain Square Park, downtown Bowling Green. 

Artists were encouraged to donate 10% of sales and/or a piece of artwork for future auction to help support the Capitol Arts Alliance Houchens Gallery and Artworks Young Artist Grant Program. Art and artists do make a difference!!

Winners of the juried portion of the event were announced:  Alice Gatewood Waddell won Best of Show for her painting “Love Land,” Mark Whitley won 1st place for his wood chest “Spectrum: The Necessaries Chest,”  Kim Jones won 2nd place for works on paper “Circles on a Square,” and Bob Brigl won 3rd place for his ceramics  “She Shell.

Young Artists Grant Program


The intention of the Young Artists Grant program is to give young artists the recognition and pride of displaying their work in a public exhibition. 

ArtWorks will grant funds to area high school art teachers who wish to produce an exhibit of students’ work in accordance with school policy.  These funds will be used to purchase supplies for the exhibit.  The amount of funds awarded will be determined on the basis of each individual application. 

ArtWorks will be accepting applications for the 2007/2008 school year from January 1st 2008 until April 30th 2008.  Applications may be submitted from July 1st until April 30th for subsequent school years.

ArtWorks and the Young Artist Grant Program shall receive credit for underwriting the exhibit.  The board of directors of ArtWorks shall serve as the granting committee for the Young Artists Grant Program.

Please provide the information requested followed by a brief description of when, how, and where the exhibit will take place.  Please include a letter of approval/support from your school’s administrator.
